Rajdeep Choudhury
Rajdeep specialises in commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration,
with over 20 years’ experience in representing businesses in disputes arising out of a
range of industries including oil and gas, renewable energy, power, infrastructure,
manufacturing and commodities. He represents all key stakeholders such as project
sponsors, contractors, shareholders and offtakers.
He has advised a national oil company in an investigation arising out of its
participating interest in a production sharing contract.
In commercial litigation, Rajdeep appears in all High Courts in India and the
Supreme Court of India.
In international commercial arbitration, he appears in ad hoc and institutional
arbitrations seated in and outside India governed by the (Indian) Arbitration and
Conciliation Act, 1996 and all the main rules, including those of Singapore
International Arbitration Centre, International Chamber of Commerce, London Court
of International Arbitration, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and Dubai
International Arbitration Centre.
In disputes arising out of construction contracts, Rajdeep also appears before
Dispute Adjudication Board and Dispute Avoidance/ Adjudication Board.
Rajdeep’s understanding of technical aspects of disputes coupled with his industry
knowledge and effective oral and written advocacy equips him to present clients’
positions to courts and tribunals persuasively. He accepts appointment as arbitrator, and is on the panel of arbitrators of Hong
Kong International Arbitration Centre and Asian International Arbitration Centre.
Rajdeep was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 2001 and was enrolled with the Bar
Council of West Bengal (India) in 2005. When studying for the Bar Vocational
Course, he was the recipient of the Sir Thomas More award by Lincoln’s Inn.
Rajdeep has written extensively on arbitration law and contract law. He is a regular
speaker at conferences.
Outside of work, Rajdeep is an avid runner and motorcycle enthusiast.
